Earth3D

What’s missing from this image here? No reviews posted in the App Store yet! In Chicago’s time zone, it has been August 4th for about 3 hours now, and Earth 3D was added today, as in mere hours (or minutes?) ago.
Earth3D is a cool little visual toy. It won’t find you a restaurant or the nearest highway on-ramp, but it’ll give you a nice simulated view of our planet’s rotation along with the sun and the moon. The default camera view rotates around Earth to the west while the planet rotates to the east. Touch with one finger to pause the animation and turn back time like Clark Kent did when he flipped out in Superman I, or touch with two fingers to change to a stationary view of our spin cycle, as if you’ve got a lawn chair on the moon.
I don’t know if I’d ever pay for a strictly visual app like this one, but I do appreciate when developers like Nicoteam put them out there for free so everyone can enjoy their creative handiwork. Go on and install Earth3D – it’s unique and it’s free, an increasingly rare combination in the App Store these days.
- Gotta love the clouds and even the ozone layer
- Check out all the night-time lights in North America - no wonder we cause so much of the world's pollution!
