I don’t claim to be a marketing expert, but The Audi A4 Driving Challenge looks like a brand marketing stunt gone horribly wrong. The real-life Audi A4 is a slick European sports sedan, and this game has the gloss of a slick, professionally-built application but that’s about it. It’s just gloss. The car you’re attempting to ”drive” in this app could literally be anything you want it to be since there’s no way to identify the car’s features from the app’s annoying top-down point of view, and the gameplay is incredibly bad.

If anything, Audi should be calling this the DRUNK Driving Challenge because navigating the car through the maze of cones with any semblance of control is nearly impossible unless you’re trying to simulate a 10 mph Driving Miss Daisy run. According to Audi’s App Store description, “it’s better to slow down and remain in control than to constantly speed ahead at full throttle.” I’ve got two words for the slow-and-controlled strategy: screw that!!

A4′s description continues with “if you’re ready for a driving skill game that isn’t just ‘pedal to the metal’, this game is for you!” OMG, someone really needs to teach Audi what driving games are all about: HAULING ASS, and trying to haul ass in this poor representation of an Audi A4 is a total exercise in futility.

On top of the lousy “driving experience’, The Audi A4 Driving Challenge is completely devoid of sound which I take as a sign of utter laziness on the part of the developer.

It’s almost as if Audi’s marketing deparment put this app out just to satisfy some executive’s ego. The graphics are good but not great (wow, what gorgeous asphalt!) and the rest of this game is a total waste of time unless driving really slow gets you hot. The only good decision Audi made with this game is to give it away for free… imagine the damage to their brand if they were actually expecting people to pay for this trainwreck.

If you own an Audi A4 and are excited about the prospect of driving your car on your iPhone, be prepared for a huge disappointment.

Being a proud A4 owner I am ashamed at what seems to be a half ass attempt by Audi. Do they have a Subaru Outback challenge out there anywhere??
