Yeah, that would be nice if Apple would lean that way (and get us some copy and paste action, and...), but you know how things go with Apple sometimes. Hey, I had another thought in regards to the program: could you add like a few soundtracks into the program that the user could choose and play with the animation? That would be pretty sweet! Well, thanks again! It's good to see developers (like yourself) that take the time to listen to the consumer and invest their time and care into their apps! :) That's what makes for good quality apps and a future for iPhone gaming and utilities. :)

Mail is a tricky thing. The alternatives are this:

1) have a full-fledged email client within the app itself, which would be a pain because of the all the variations of email servers out there. Heck sometimes even Mail.app doesn't get it right.

2) Send the information to a server, let your Postscript install do the mailing.

3) Wait until Apple lets you send attachments. Numerous developers have filed bugs on this, and I'm sure it's high on Apple's list.

Between the 3, I'm leaning toward the last two. I'd rather spend my time improving the Lightastic! part of things than chasing down email server bugs that I need to work around.

Cool, that's good to know. Just a couple thoughts on what we've been talking about. There's another program I'm reviewing right now that has a built-in email client that allows you to email your image from inside the program. Would something like that work or be possible concerning the animations?

Second, concerning the resolution, let's say you have the option for larger resolution pages, you could have like a pinch zoom in and out feature (like you do when you are in safari or when you zoom in on a photo). So, with a larger board, one could zone in on a specific area, pan over to another area, and be able to zoom out to check the work. Just a thought, don't know how feasible that would be or not.

And concerning the update, LOVE the looping option!! That puts a whole new sweet addition to the app!

Oh! One more thing!

There's an update on its way, I'm just waiting for it to be approved. The new version includes several performance tweaks plus a new looping option so you can loop your animations endlessly.

Hello!

I'm the creator of Lightastic! Thanks for the great review! Surprisingly, I agree with your criticisms!

Let me make a couple of comments...

1) Peg colors - since this was version 1.x, I didn't want to overwhelm the user with a ton of choices, so I tried to stick to the classic Lite Brite color palette. I'm definitely considering more colors, and possibly even different peg shapes!

2) The "Special Price" is an error on my part. $3.99 is where I intend to keep the price for the foreseeable future.

3) I'd love to export movies! You're right Michael, the platform is the issue. The Photos app in the iPhone won't display movies. So even if Lightastic! was able to create movies from your animations, you wouldn't be able to save them anywhere. And since Apple doesn't (yet) allow access to the Mail application, there's no way to email movies either. I can promise that once there's a practical way for users to view animations, you'll see that in Lightastic!

4) The resolution issue is a tough one, especially with a screen as small as the iPhone's. That said, I am looking at ways to make bigger lightworks. No promises yet, but it should be pretty cool!
Thanks again, and keep up the great work!

Great review! Lightastic looks vastly superior to the Lite Brite apps that I tried.

Yeah, it sucks that you can't export the animation, but I suspect that might be a limitation of the platform...? Maybe someday the camera roll will support animated gifs.

If FoggyNoggin is reading this maybe they can elaborate on this issue and whether there's a way to make it happen.
