Monsters Vs. Aliens
Chrisa | Apr 10, 2009 Games

I have kids, but they are all teenagers now, so I’m spared having to see every kids movie that comes out – finally. I have nothing against really good animated movies, but, thank jeebus, I was spared Beverly Hills Chihuahua. I have been intrigued with Dreamworks new Monsters vs. Aliens, out in theaters now, so I thought I’d get a little preview by trying out AvatarLabs application based on the film.
It’s actually a load of fun. There are lots of things to do. My favorite is to play with B.O.B., the big blue blob of goo voiced in the film and the app by Seth Rogen. Load up B.O.B. and perform some common iPhone moves, like shaking him, swiping over him, and poking him, and see him react. The reactions and what he says changes each time, so it’s not like you do each thing once and then get bored because he says the same thing every time.

App Sale: iEggs
Michael (Admin) | Apr 10, 2009 App Sale Alert, Games

iEggs feels like it’s somehow related to Easter because there are eggs in it, but it’s really not… it’s still mildly amusing, though! The object is to jump eggs upward to a nest by way of tray-toting birds who fly back and forth.
You get 10 eggs, and if you miss a tray as you tap your way up, your egg will probably drop into the water below and it’s on to the next one. Sometimes you get lucky and a passing bird will catch it, thereby giving you a second chance, but the birds don’t give a crap if you make it to the global scoreboard so you just gotta get lucky.
iEggs is well-produced and has nice sound and graphics. Permeative Technologies normally charges $3.99 for it and their “Easter Sale” will probably be ending soon, so grab it for free while you can!
- The higher you go, the more nerve-wracking iEggs becomes
- 4,000 points? OMG!

Scoop: Dungeon Defense New Content Preview!
Swain Valasek | Apr 9, 2009 Games
Note my original review is located here if you need to catch up on what this great game is all about.
Lucky me. For the last couple days I’ve had the pleasure of running a preview copy of the impending Dungeon Defense update through its paces. This update adds several gameplay tweaks plus 1 major chunk of content: a new map called Blood-Orb! Among other things, it hints at the cool story that will be unfolding regarding one aptly named and highly evil Dungeon King…

IM+ v2.0
Michael (Admin) | Apr 9, 2009 Social Networking

Not long ago I wrote about how awesome Nimbuzz is because it’s totally free and supports a bunch of different instant messaging platforms. Free apps like Nimbuzz and IM+ Lite provide plenty of chat functionality for very casual users, but maybe you need more than that. Maybe IM is how you stay connected to your office… maybe you’ve got hot gossip that needs spreading… or maybe you’ve just gone off the deep end and insist on being wired 24/7. Whatever your reason for wanting to be “online” even when you’re not running an IM app, IM+ v2.0 is the heavy-duty solution you’re looking for.
This constant availability is accomplished through something called “IM Push”… you can input an email address in the options panel, set “Keep IM services connected on exit” to On… and when you close IM+ you’ll remain signed in on whatever instant messengers you’re using! Go ahead… play games, lock the iPhone, do whatever. If someone tries to message you, IM Push will send you an email with the incoming chat message, and you can reply to the email as if you’re actually using a chat window.
Q&F: I Can Has Cheezburger
Michael (Admin) | Apr 9, 2009 Lifestyle, Quick & Free

Just a couple of days after I started iPhone App Reviews last summer I reviewed an app called LOLCats which I thought was one of the dumbest things I’d ever seen… and I still think it’s dumb! …and ever since then I’ve stayed away from I Can Has Cheezburger because I figured it was more or less the same thing: a parade of stupid cat photos labeled with big block letters and intentionally horrendous spelling.
Recently, though, I was so bored out of my skull that I broke down and grabbed Cheezburger… and whaddya know… it’s hilarious! Yeah, it has those frakkin’ cats in it, but it also gives you the choice of browsing stupid pics from a bunch of other sites like I Has a Hotdog! (dog pics), FAIL blog (awesome), Pundit Kitchen, Graph Jam, and a few other more obscure photo collections.
The Enigma Machine
Michael (Admin) | Apr 8, 2009 Games

If you’ve ever seen the movie U-571 starring Matthew McConaughey who, surprisingly, kept his shirt on for the entire film, you already know what an Enigma Machine is… it’s a little box used for coding and decoding messages that was invented by some German guy, hence its notable history in service to the Nazi regime during World War II.
Crude Games, LLC has created a pretty cool puzzle/logic game out of their iPhone version of the Enigma, and your mission is to use the device to decrypt words that are 3-5 letters in length.
I’ll get right to the point here: if you’re a dedicated Word Nerd, chances are you’ll LOVE this app.
Silly Songz
Michael (Admin) | Apr 8, 2009 Music

Email greeting cards have been a pretty huge industry since the day when environmental hero Al Gore invented the internet, but for some reason audio cards never really caught on. Spazzles is trying to change that, but instead of adding a personalized recording to a greeting card image, they’re adding that personalized recording to the end of a goofy song instead.
Silly Songz is a semi-schizophrenic collection of original music that’s half nice and half craaaazy, and you get to append a 15-second recording to the end of the song you choose. Some of the nice songs deliver messages like don’t be sad, get well, I love you, etc. The crazy songs are far less kind and deliver messages like you’re dumped, quit calling me, let’s golf and drink beer, and my personal favorite, “I got diarrhea”.

Eric’s 6 Random Freebies
Michael (Admin) | Apr 7, 2009 Random Freebies
My idiot friend Eric has nothing better to do with his time than scour the iTunes App Store for free junk! He’s too lazy to give any opinions on these apps, but at least he’s nice enough to send me screenshots.
If you like (or hate) this post, please say so in the comments. Depending on the public reaction I’ll either continue to allow Eric to litter my inbox with his non-recommendations or I’ll tell him to shove it!

Air Mouse Pro
Chris J. | Apr 6, 2009 Utilities

Air Mouse Pro is an impressive app that turns your iPhone into a mouse or touchpad. So far I have found it useful enough that I sometimes find myself using the Air Mouse rather than my computer mouse even when sitting at my desk. I would not go so far as to throw out my mouse and only use my iPod Touch to control my computer, but it is definitely very useful.
Are you literate?
Michael (Admin) | Apr 6, 2009 Website Stuff
Ok, actually I’m looking for people who are a little more than just literate… but if you have a sense of humor, a U.S. iTunes account, love writing about apps, and know something about WordPress, maybe you’d like to join the iPhone App Reviews team!
The writers already onboard kick so much ass it’s ridiculous, but there are tons of review requests coming in so there’s room for a few more.
This isn’t a paying gig, but you get free apps for review and an adoring audience of thousands who are sure to enjoy your work. Please submit your writing sample only if you truly have time for this kind of thing! Thanks in advance for being awesome.
Sudoku Grab
Michael (Admin) | Apr 6, 2009 Games

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m too stupid to play Sudoku. Seriously, this game hurts my skull! Crosswords I can handle, but weird Japanese number puzzles I can’t.
However, I decided to try this app because I wanted to be impressed by Sudoku Grab’s main attraction which is the ability to “Grab” other sudoku puzzles via photo capture! And impressed I am, mostly.
