The folks at LuckyWheel have an update that’s gonna hit the App Store any minute now, so they’ve sent over a TON of free codes to share with the iPhone App Reviews audience!

There are 40 codes in all, and I’m going to break them up into 4 different posts in an effort to minimize the difficulty in finding codes that you can redeem successfully. It would still be super nice if everyone could leave a comment saying which code you took! Don’t gotta be fancy or clever, just say which number code you used. Please?

If you’ve never heard of LuckyWheel, I reviewed it a couple months ago… it’s a lot like Wheel of Fortune. It doesn’t have the same gloss as Wheel, but it’s still pretty fun and it features pass-n-play for when you’re with friends (something Wheel lacks).

Thanks a bunch to Drobnik.com for sharing the codes!! And for those of you who miss out on this code extravaganza, the game’s only $1 so buying it won’t break the bank.

$5.99 $1.99 until next week

R.P.A. Tech isn’t being all that clear on when the sale on their cool little Air Mouse Pro will end, but if you wanna save $4 off the regular price now is the time to get it.

Chris J. reviewed it in April and thought it was pretty awesome, and you know Chris ain’t gonna steer you wrong!

eyeFro

User rating: (2 votes, average: 5.00 out of 5)

I confess… my only motivation in grabbing eyeFro was to put a gigantic afro on my dog! And my only motivation in writing this review is it’s Friday so I’m feeling a little stupid and a little lazy, so this review will be a quickie:

eyeFro is is super simple – just take a photo or load one from the camera roll and *hope* that eyeFro will put the Fro in the right place. If the app can’t “dig” your photo (read: can’t figure out where to place the Fro) then you’re outta luck! But when your photo has the right amount of funk where people are looking straight at the camera with their eyes OPEN the results can be somewhat satisfying. If you want to change fros, give the iPhone a shake.

Personally I’d rather select and place the Fro myself ‘cuz I’m nutty like that, but I think I can appreciate what PunBros is trying to do with their Fro automation. The app isn’t perfect and has a bit of a tendency to crash when shaking to change fros, but if you’re super-bored and have a dollar to burn, then maybe eyeFro is what you’re looking for.

Stoneloops! of Jurassica

Quite frankly, you don’t even need to read through my review of Stoneloops! of Jurassica from PlayCreek LLC…just buy it, download, start playing and thank me later when you finally tear yourself away from it.  The concept of a must-have game for the iDevice is always arguable but straight away when you start playing Stoneloops things just start to click in your mind until you reach that AHH moment and realize that this is what defines a must-have game.  If you’ve never heard of SoJ, it’s a ‘marble pop’ game and if you’ve never heard of that, it’s related to ‘match 3′ games and if you’ve never heard of that well, you need to get busy.  The gist of marble pop games is a stream of colored marbles makes its way around a closed path and you have a stationary launcher that you can rotate around and launch colored marbles at the stream.  Make a match of at least 3 of the same color and they ‘pop’, potentially creating more matches for combos, you rack up points and so on until you clear the level and advance.  Most folks credit Zuma as the first big marble pop game on the iDevice then Blackbeard’s Assault probably a close second.  Well, SoJ bests them both and absolutely sets the gold standard for this category in the app store.  If I have this right, SoJ is originally credited to Codeminion who actually contracted out the majority of the game creation to 3rd party developers Farm51 and the iDevice version was made by yet a 3rd (3rd 3rd?) party we know as PlayCreek.

Open Cellar

Ooh la la: Check out this new app from France! Although Open Cellar makes no promises of turning you into a wine connoisseur, I’m hoping it will knock some sense into my fiancé, who’s idea of a good time is a jug of Carlo Rossi from CVS! Open Cellar, originally developed by Matthieu DUCROCQ as a wine cellar organizing software for Mac and PC, is now available as an app that is great for managing the wine you already have and exploring new ones. It even has a feature that allows you to pair dishes with different wines, giving options for both red and white when available.

Open Cellar allows you to search for wines in it’s database or enter your own. You can then add characteristics to your bottles including origin, year etc., add your own ranking and make personal notes. My favorite aspect of this app is being able to view your wine cellar in “graphical mode”—see the image of my dream cellar below!

This makes for a pretty useful app while shopping as it allows you to see what’s already in the cellar and your notes on wines you liked and disliked in the past. However, one aspect of Open Cellar that’s a bit disappointing is it’s video database, called BeWineConnected. It would be a great learning resource but currently there are only three wine tasting videos, all of which are in French. Let’s hope in the future Open Cellar adds more videos, including some in English.

Update: IM+ 3.0

User rating: (9 votes, average: 4.33 out of 5)

Whoa dude, two updates in one week! This is an important one because when I reviewed IM+ a couple months ago I was grumbling that it didn’t support Skype. Well, now it does. And it supports Twitter. And it can provide your location, although in my brief experiment the accuracy was off by a few miles.

This is still a pretty big update, though, and here’s the official word from SHAPE Services:

The most important additions in IM+ 3.0 paid version are Twitter and Skype Chat. The minor changes include an ability to create own status messages including geo-status with current location.

IM+ 3.0 lite version’s functionality (lite version is coming soon) is also significantly expanded. Besides Twitter, we’ve added the following functions which previously were available in paid version only: Send photo, Send location and Send voice.

* Note: Due to technical reasons the version number in App tore is displayed as 2.2, though it is a major update 3.0.

Kind regards,
SHAPE Services
http://www.shapeservices.com/

IM+ may be pricey but that’s because it does that fancy thing where you can still receive chat messages even when the app isn’t running which dramatically raises its value for the super-wired. However, if you’re too broke to drop $10 on this app you can haul ass to the comment box and try to grab one of the free codes that SHAPE has very kindly provided!

Update: Separate Checks 2.0

User rating: (3 votes, average: 5.00 out of 5)

Aaron Berk, creator of the infamous Wooo Button, recently used his magical powers to morph into an app-making machine called TightApps and his latest release is actually a major re-release of his formerly plain-jane bill splitter Separate Checks.

The newer, prettier, and more robust version not only lets you tabulate shared costs with excruciating accuracy, it also gives options for splitting checks either approximately or equally. If you’re splitting things equally you could probably get away with just using a plain old calculator, but the “split approximately” feature is awesome!! Instead of itemizing everything on the table which can be a huge chore, it provides cost sliders for each person who is sharing the bill. It makes splitting the check WAY faster than pecking away at the keyboard throughout dinner, and I think this feature alone is worth the dollar you’ll pay for this app. To see it in action just skip to the 8:00 mark in the demo video below. One thing I’d prefer, though, is for the sliders to work on whole dollar amounts since that’s typically how people pay for their share.

SlingPlayer Mobile

As a happy Slingbox / Slingplayer owner for the last few years, one of the reasons why I continue to carry multiple devices (and not just the iPhone exclusively) is that I could never “Sling” my home TV signal to my iPhone.  Well that has all changed with the release of  Slingplayer Mobile for iPhone ($29.99) from Sling Media.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Slingbox:  You buy hardware (the “Slingbox”, currently starting at $179.99, no monthly fees)  and it connects to almost any existing video source (Cable Box, Satellite Reciever, U-verse, FiOS, etc) in your home.  It then is able to “Sling” that TV signal to any computer in the world with a broadband internet connection.  The PC software (SlingPlayer) that allows you to receive the TV signal from the Slingbox is included with the hardware.  Sling also offers Mobile players for Windows Mobile, Symbian (limited device support) , Palm (not webOS yet), and most recently BlackBerry.  The Mobile players sell for an additional $29.99 (one time fee), and allow the user to watch TV on the device using the cellular data connection or WiFi, if the device support it.  The iPhone Slingplayer currently ONLY supports using a WiFi data connection, and is the only mobile player from Sling that is not able to use a cellular network for a data connection.  More on that later.

Where to Golf

Most people in the U.S. consider Memorial Day weekend to be the “official” start of summer, and since that holiday passed a week ago I guess it’s time to talk about golf! It usually takes me 3 or 4 swings to get the damn ball off the tee, but any sport you can play while drinking is ok in my book.

Where to Golf does exactly what its name implies – it tells you where to golf. It’s a comprehensive listing of just about every golf course in the U.S. and Canada with all the details you could possibly want from each… par, yardage, rating, slope, green fees, cart rental fees, grass type, the golf pro’s name, the course designer’s name, the drink cart girl’s phone number, you name it.
