Double Feature: iButterToast and iJog

This is Part 2 of my fact-finding mission for that plucky reporter who’s investigating oddball apps, and this time around I’m asking the codehounds to promise to post a comment with your thoughts on the app in exchange for the promo code!

So are either of these apps really worth your time? One of them has you buttering a piece of virtual toast with your finger and the other is literally a finger treadmill. Huh?? Well believe it or not, I kind of like buttering the toast! If there were a Hall of Fame for the Dumbest iPhone Games of All Time, iButterToast would be a first ballot shoo-in, yet I actually had a little fun trying to butter the toast in record time.

iJog, the finger treadmill, isn’t what I’d call “fun”… tedious is more like it… but it really is a workout for your fingers.

iButterToast gives you the option of buttering 1, 2, 5, or 10 slices of toast and the object is to butter each slice with your finger as fast as you can. The butter looks pretty real and it’s strangely satisfying when a piece of toast is completely buttered, and when you’re all done you can enter your name on the local-only scoreboard if your time is fast enough.

So would I pay a dollar for this thing? Ehh, probably not, but that’s largely because I’m just really cheap. If you’re bored out of your skull and don’t mind throwing down a buck then go ahead and try it out! Or just wait for one of the 49 promo codes that Freedom Hobby has very generously provided for your buttering pleasure.

iJog by Magno Urbano is also pretty weird, but like I already said it’s not terribly amusing. If you’re looking for a bizarre way to exercise your fingers, though, this definitely fits the bill… as you walk your fingers along the iPhone screen, a treadmill dashboard records your time, “distance”, and speed. Why on earth would you ever need a treadmill for your fingers? I have no frakkin’ idea!! But it’s pretty unlikely that you’ll ever find one for less than $.99.

Magno Urbano has provided FOUR extra codes for iJog and today I’ll also hand out the first 10 of the 49 extra codes from Freedom Hobby!

Unlike the usual free-for-all code grab, I’m going to send these codes to the first ones to email me with a promise to try the app and post their thoughts in this comment box. Please be sure to specify which app you want, and only one code per person please~

I thought iButterToast was gonna be fun, but it really disappoints me. I beat it all in less than 3 minutes and even got the top score in all of the slices. This is a really lame game. I do not recommend it.

Anyways thank you for the codes though.

first of all, i want to thank you guys for the code

for iJog, when i first played it, i thought it was ok. after a while it seems very boring to me. it kind of ache my fingers. i don’t think it should be worth a dollar. free is the right price for this game.

Oh boy. Where do people come up with ideas like this? Haha… P.S. just found this website and I totally love it! Especially because apps like this are actually everywhere.

Also – thanks for not loading the site with awful ads!! Mostly I use Google Reader for everything because I can’t stand the design of most review sites, but I just hopped on this one today and I really am impressed.

Thank you very much for the code! I tried out iJog. The game, if you can call it that, is just a treadmill that you move your fingers on. That’s it. There’s really nothing else to it. You really don’t need the app to exercise your fingers anyway, it just makes jogging noises and little footprints appear when you touch it. I would say it should be free, but even then I’d still uninstall it as soon as I got bored with it. Thanks for letting me review it.

it looks pretty real, some noises would enhance this. its a slightly fun, but would be much better if they added an online leader board. it makes me want to go make some toast when i play it too. haha

iButterToast is the perfect phone game! If you’re waiting in line at the store or filling up the gas tank you have enough time to butter toast, it’s not meant to be played as say a passenger in a car on a long drive. I would like to be able to “eat” the toast afterwards though. It also lacks a online leader board and sounds, but I still highly recommend it.

So I just got ijog and played around with it. This is a hilarious app for when you’re bored or if you’re so lazy a real treadmill is out of the question. While measuring your heart rate and calories lost you can get the biggest finger exercise of your life ;) i think I would give this one 4 out of 10 stars. Needs different treadmills and maybe different sounds also. Thanks again appreview

I got iJog today and thought it was pretty fun for a while. My sisters and brother loved it though. It’s great if you’re really bored and need something to do for a few minutes but it gets boring pretty fast. I probably wouldn’t buy it myself. Thanks for the code.

I thought iButter toast was pretty fun. It’s great to play for a few minutes, but, it’s not the type of game you would want to play for a long time. Great when you’re bored or waiting in line at Disneyland. :) Fun app. Thanks for letting me review it.

I’m the author of iButterToast. It’s supposed to be a dumb game.. That’s the point! I’ve found it the most fun when playing against a bunch of friends at a party. People really can be pretty competitive.

Once Apple gets around to approving the next version it’ll have support for worldwide online highscores. I’m pretty interested to see how fast the world record will be after a month or so.

So, I used one of the codes provided on the 3rd round of codes, and this is a TON of fun…Definitely a game to play with a few friends…After a couple of drinks at the bar, I started passing around the iPhone as we tried for the best buttering time…A good time was had by all…Lots of laughs and lots of enjoyment….THANKS!
