Hint Sprint – The Rhyming Word Game!

Hey, can you guess what Hint Sprint is? Well duh, it’s right there in the title… it’s a rhyming word game!

The game is 3rd-grade simple: come up with two rhyming words that fit the hint you’re given. In fact, it’s so simple that I can sit here and make up a new puzzle right off the top of my head:

Hint: What I love doing in crowded elevators every chance I get
Solution: Pass Gas

See? It’s that easy!

For each puzzle, you’re given a time limit of anywhere from 1 minute (easy) to 30 seconds (hard) and each puzzle is worth 10 points, and you get ten puzzles before your final score is revealed. If you get stumped, you can press the Hint button which will reveal letters at a cost of 1 point each, or you can skip the puzzle and come back to it later.

As an iPhone app, Hint Sprint is very barebones with little to speak of in visual design and no global scoring, but the game itself is very playable and can get pretty frustrating when you think you’re on a roll and suddenly hit the wall, plus it plays well with the iPod.

There are tons of ways that Sobits could improve on this game… starting with a graphic makeover! Like it or not, judging books by the cover is a pastime that most of us secretly like to engage in, so eye candy counts.

Adjusting the scoring to make a global scoreboard possible is another obvious suggestion, and expanding the number of available puzzles is a must. Maybe break them up into categories like they do on Wheel of Fortune. And to that end, why not let users submit their own puzzles via the app? Make a contest out of it! Go viral! Be kooky!

Well anyway, bottom line is that Hint Sprint ain’t pretty and it ain’t fancy, but it can be pretty fun if  you’re into this kind of word game. Worth a buck? Hmm, right now I’d say it’s borderline. Add a significant number of new puzzles and I’d feel a lot better about paying for it.

(P.S. If you miss out on the codes listed below, I’ll be posting 10 more later today!)
