Update: Ambiance
Michael (Admin) | Aug 4, 2009 Productivity

I’ve been meaning to do this update for months! And I use the term “update” loosely because when I reviewed Ambiance last year it was just a sound machine that could do a little sound mixing. Today, it’s a Sound Machine Gone Wild!!
Seriously, this thing is nuts… it does everything the original Ambiance did plus TONS more. Let’s see… you can browse/search/download sounds from a library of 500+ exclusive sound loops, you can add songs from your iPod to sound mixes, you can save mixes to play later, you can categorize your downloaded sounds, you can take a photo or get a camera roll pic to look at while sounds play, and you can even use the app as an alarm clock that lulls you to sleep and then wakes you up to something completely different. WHEW! That’s a lotta stuff.
And there’s more that I simply haven’t tried yet because Ambiance is just that big. It’s like an app store for sounds only, but after you buy the app all the sounds are free. In fact, this app is designed to look a lot like the iTunes App Store, probably as a way of giving you a sense of familiarity in finding the sounds you want.
Ambiance has way more features than I’ll ever use, but it’s nice to know they’re available. This really is an impressive thing to behold, and for the current sale price of $.99 it’s hard to go wrong here.

Version 2.1
Reviewed on iPhone 3G OS3.0
- The sleekest-looking title screen I've seen in a while
- Hmm, this format looks awfully familiar...
- Hey neat, it even comes with a little story about standing around in sand
- Add songs from iTunes! Cool feature, nice work
- I can't sleep with R2D2 making all that racket
- Rate it, add to favs, add tracks from iTunes, so much to do
- My Monk Wars mix is nutty
- Call the cops, there's a candy colored clown they call the sandman who tiptoes through my room every night
- The alarm function is awesome!!
