WTF: Affirmations Pro
Michael (Admin) | Aug 5, 2009 Lifestyle, WTF?!

Welcome to the very first app review to fall under the newly-minted category WTF?!
When I’m feeling down, nothing brightens my day more than encouraging words from a creepy robotic voice!
I am rock solid!
I am confident at all times!
Other people think I am a good person!
My self-confidence is my weapon against the world!
Apparently Affirmations Pro comes with a total of 90 affirmations that sound like they were recorded with the talking voice from a 20-year-old Mac, and to treat yourself to these first-person nuggets of wisdom all you need to do is tap on the ultra-cool sunglass smiley faces that fill the screen.
Believe it or not, I think Affirmations Pro has some potential… as a joke app. The robot voice is classic, and how funny would it be to hide your iPhone in someone’s cubicle and annoy the crap out of them all day long with mechanical encouragement?
I don’t know what mindwarrior’s expectations are for this app, but I have a really hard time seeing anyone buying this thing for its intended purpose. If I were the product development chief on this project, here’s what I’d do:
- Make it so the recordings could say “you” instead of “I”
- Make it so a large number of common names could be substituted for “you” or “I”
- Make the “affirmations” a lot gooey-er and throw in some joke phrases
- Implement a wifi- or bluetooth-based remote trigger so that if you have Affirmations Pro running on one iPhone you can trigger them from another iPhone, or maybe from a computer
I know, way easier said than done, but picture this app in that TV show “The Office” (U.S. version). Jim would have a ball messing with Dwight’s head if he could hide an iPhone somewhere and make it say “Dwight controls his destiny” all day long! It might be short-lived fun, but it could be worth a laugh and there’s the potential to sell more apps because one could trigger the other.
