Competitive trivia is a beautiful contradiction: Demonstrate your intellectual prowess while destroying those very brain cells with $2.00 pitchers of beer. Now for the trivia lover inside all of us comes “Triviaburst.” This app allows you to sharpen your trivia skills, compete against others, create your own questions and even brag to your Facebook friends.
Triviaburst is a joint effort between the folks at E5 and Bit33. According to the website, it started as an idea on a pizza napkin, as most brilliant ideas do. The premise is a simple one: Create a profile, and earn points by answering trivia questions. The beauty of this app is it’s depth. You can choose to answer questions ranging in a difficulty and in number per round. You can play as an individual, compete against friends or form a team and compete against other teams. Now for the cherry on top: This app interacts with your Facebook account for you to brag about your score.
Questions exist in 3 main categories and 12 subcategories offering a player an extensive range. Don’t feel like those questions to live up to your standards? Then create and submit your very own questions which are uploaded, available to all users and even give you the credit for the question.
The Facebook interaction is interesting but users should know that only people with an iPhone can use the app. If you’re looking to get your non iPhone Facebook friends involved, forget about it.
Another good addition to this app is the leader board section. You can see your overall score and how you rank against other players plus see the top players/groups. If you feel like taking on the top players in an effort to conquer the world via trivia competition, enter their user name in the player challenge section on the “compete” tab.
Overall, this is a great app because it’s easy to use, offers competition and interacts with the most popular social networking site, at the moment. Is it worth the $2.99 price tag? In this reviewer’s opinion: Save the $2.99 for those pitchers. This is a good time waster and who doesn’t like flexing their mental muscles but let’s face it: Live trivia will always be king and there are plenty of other free apps to satisfy that trivia itch. However, if you’ve got the dough to spend, this is the trivia app to get.
