WTF?!
Michael (Admin) | Aug 5, 2009 Website Stuff, WTF?!
Hey it’s a NEW FEATURE!
We generally try to review apps that look like they at least have potential, and once in a while we’ll toss out a Q&F review, but I think it’s time to start having some weekly fun with apps that just make you go WTF?! And that’s what WTF?! is all about… paying homage to, and when necessary making fun of, apps that are so dumb you can’t help but laugh (or cry?), or ones that are just plain out there.
WTF?! app reviews will generally be posted on Wednesdays if I manage to actually stick to the schedule I’m cobbling together, but if the other writers here want to dig up some weirdness on a different day I won’t argue!
Be sure to let us know in the comments if you think these reviews are cool or lame or whatever. Also check the sidebar for a poll soon after the first WTF?! reviews go live.

Walls Creator
Michael (Admin) | Aug 4, 2009 Utilities

It’s no secret that I have a massive crush on the C@rds app series from Hot Chili Apps, and now they’re applying their skills to a slightly different kind of photo/text mashup with Walls Creator.
One of the first things you ever did with your iPhone was probably set the wallpaper image which is what shows up before you “Slide to Unlock” it. Wallpaper is cool, but without an app like Walls Creator you’re limited to using just one photo in that space, and if it doesn’t scale well with the clock and the slider then tough crap!
Walls Creator provides a bunch of templates, 29 to be exact, that include photo masks, multi-image templates for combining all kinds of junk into one image, and of course there’s also a text tool. It’s pretty sweet if your unlock screen is something you find yourself changing with any regularity.

Update: Ambiance
Michael (Admin) | Aug 4, 2009 Productivity

I’ve been meaning to do this update for months! And I use the term “update” loosely because when I reviewed Ambiance last year it was just a sound machine that could do a little sound mixing. Today, it’s a Sound Machine Gone Wild!!
Seriously, this thing is nuts… it does everything the original Ambiance did plus TONS more. Let’s see… you can browse/search/download sounds from a library of 500+ exclusive sound loops, you can add songs from your iPod to sound mixes, you can save mixes to play later, you can categorize your downloaded sounds, you can take a photo or get a camera roll pic to look at while sounds play, and you can even use the app as an alarm clock that lulls you to sleep and then wakes you up to something completely different. WHEW! That’s a lotta stuff.

iYamato Lite
Swain Valasek | Aug 3, 2009 Games
Note the full version of iYamato was reviewed by me right here.
The developer dropped us a line and wanted us to let everyone know the lite version of iYamato is out for you to try for free to help you decide if the full version is worth a purchase.
The lite features a 1 min time attack mode and new leader board. Give it a go, this game has a great cinematic feel, wicked graphics and sound (try it with headphones) and is lots of fun.

Dungeonslayer
Swain Valasek | Aug 2, 2009 Games
There’s been a growing trend among iPhone game releases lately and if you had to sum it up in one phrase it would be ‘has potential but needs work’. Adding +1 to this trend is the action RPG Dungeonslayer (DS hereafter) from Needsnacks Studios. This game will remind one of Diablo from the screenshots/video and certainly it appears to draw inspiration from that classic but alas, after playing through the game it’s clear the consummate Diablo clone for iPhone has not yet been delivered. Enough then about Diablo, let’s get down to specifics about Dungeonslayer, a game which I do like (despite my opening comments) and have lots to say about so buckle up for a lengthy review.

App Sale: F.A.S.T. — Fleet Air Superiority Training
Michael (Admin) | Aug 1, 2009 App Sale Alert, Games

$9.99 $.99 until ???
Wow… I know games usually get cheaper as they get older but this is ridiculous!
Chris J. reviewed F.A.S.T. a little over a month ago when it was $9.99… later that same day he pointed out that it was suddenly on sale on for $5.99… and now it’s down to $.99.
Chris loved the game but had trouble getting a successful multiplayer dogfight over wifi because apparently there weren’t enough people playing. Well, I guess a 90% price drop is one way to fix that!
P.S. Thanks to Agent K for posting the sale in the comment box on Chris J.’s review
