I actually intended to review Pin-Up Hunt a while ago, but when Pin-Up got lost in Apple’s black hole review process I wound up reviewing Sexy FindIT instead. Both are ”spot the difference” games that force you to stare intently at scantily clad ladies, and while they’re both more or less the same thing they’re also distinctly different in style.

It’s pretty easy to sum up the difference between the two apps: Pin-Up Hunt is way less sleazy! I’m not saying that Sexy FindIT is X-rated or super nasty (sorry, it’s not), but there’s a big difference between pin-ups and bikini models. The pin-ups in Lush Entertainment’s app seem to be split between classic pin-up artwork and the more modern, tattooed version of today’s pin-up models. Personally I prefer the artwork, but if you’re more into the tattooed 21st century version of Jayne Mansfield then this app’s got what you want.

As far as the game of spotting differences goes, Pin-Up Hunt does a pretty good job all around. It doesn’t let you zoom in on the images like Sexy FindIT does, but it does everything else you’d expect: hints are provided, differences get circled when you tap them, time penalties are assessed for bad guesses, and there’s a global scoreboard.

Unlike its competitor which gives one hint per puzzle, Pin-Up Hunt only provides three hints total meaning that when they’re spent, they’re spent. I think this is the right way to go since giving a free hint on each puzzle kind of defeats the goal of finding all five differences in the pics. Also unlike its competitor, this app has a global scoreboard! Having global scores on this kind of game is obviously a contest of memorization, but it’s good to see the developer took the time to implement it.

One thing to keep in mind with Pin-Up Hunt, though, is that some of the differences are really hard to find! Every puzzle has an item or two that’s pretty obvious, but if you’re seeing these pics for the first time you should be prepared for some frustration. I think the difficulty level actually makes the game more fun, though, and I’d much rather it be too hard than too easy.

Pin-Up Hunt is devoid of any sound effects, but you’d probably rather listen to your own music while playing anyway, right? If you like this kind of game, $.99 is a very fair price and it seems like there are enough pics to keep you busy for a while. Buy this one with confidence.
