Ship Creek
Michael (Admin) | Oct 7, 2009 Games

I’ve never met Scott Moakes, but I can already tell that he’s either a down-home country boy and/or a dude with a wacky sense of humor!
Ship Creek is a hilariously low-tech sea combat game where your badly-drawn battleship is being assaulted from all directions by equally rough-looking enemies against a crumpled paper backdrop. Your mission is to fight off planes, hot air balloons, and other boats with an unlimited supply of scribbled dots, I mean, ammo, as they bombard you with bombs and more scribbles.
The really funny thing about this game is the sound… background music is a very backwoods banjo track, and everything else was clearly produced by a couple of guys who are mouthing their own sound effects the same way 10 year old boys do when they’re crashing toys into each other.

Free Codes: The Mood Setter, Part I
Michael (Admin) | Oct 6, 2009 Free iPhone Promo Codes, Lifestyle

Sobits just sent over an email full o’ codes for The Mood Setter, a mobile aid for setting the mood on that hot date you’re about to go on. I reviewed it a few months ago and it’s silly, more of a joke app really, but you never know when it’ll come in handy!
Part II of the free codes will be posted tomorrow.

Wanna win an iPod Nano?
Michael (Admin) | Oct 6, 2009 Updates
Intelligenti Publishing, maker of Tips & Tricks – iPhone Secrets, is giving away an iPod Nano every week this month! And based on the ad they’re running in IAR’s Sponsors column to the right it looks like they’re giving away the new kind that does video, not the crappy old one.
Here’s what you gotta do: get their app and email your favorite tip to competition [at] intelligentipublishing.com by way of the app’s built-in “email a tip” feature. The app costs $2 and there’s a good chance it’ll give you some new information even if you think you know *everything* about the iPhone. Here’s my full review from June this year.
Good luck!

Sun & Time
Michael (Admin) | Oct 6, 2009 Utilities

I like to moan and groan about having no life and no friends, but that’s mostly because all of my friends live in galaxies far, far away… places like Korea, Norway, Denmark, Australia, and one other country whose name I can’t remember. This is why I’m now a regular user of Call Global, and it’s also why I could see myself using an app like Sun & Time if it had some more features.
The purpose of Sun & Time is to show you where the sun is currently rising and setting on this big wet marble we call Earth. Double-tapping Sun & Time’s world map will provide a close-up view of the region you’re looking at, and tapping on a city will open a dialogue box that shows that city’s current time, sunrise, sunset, international calling code, and whether it’s today or tomorrow at that location. If it’s a place that’s on your mind frequently, you can add it to a My Cities list which kind of mimics the iPhone’s built-in world clock.

BattleFleet Embedded
Michael (Admin) | Oct 6, 2009 Games

You bastard… YOU SUNK MY BATTLESHIP!
So now that you know what kind of game BattleFleet Embedded is, go get it while it’s on sale for free!! Normal price is $1.99.
What, you wanna know more? Ok fine… Roger Kenny has produced a pretty faithful recreation of the classic Battleship game that my parents wouldn’t buy me 30 years ago because they thought I was dumb enough to swallow all the red pegs and tiny boats. Can’t say I blame them after I ate that styrofoam Christmas ornament, but I really wanted this game!
BattleFleet pits you vs. the computer which is great but, like most board games, it would be way cooler if it had a pass ‘n’ play option. Oh yeah, and some sound would be nice, too! This game is strangely silent. Other than that, it’s pretty right on… user comments complain of some bugs here and there, but I haven’t experienced any problems yet so I gotta give this app one thumb up for being pretty cool, and another thumb up for costing zero (for now, anyway).

Q&F: Hilarious Bumper Stickers
Michael (Admin) | Oct 5, 2009 Entertainment, Quick & Free

I like hilarious bumper stickers as much as the next idiot, but Trippert Labs really needs to populate this app with more than the 50 or so bumper stickers it’s currently sporting. Some of the bumper stickers are indeed funny, most only qualify as mildly amusing at best, and in the “Newest” section it appears that the upload-your-own-pic function is attracting mildly amusing pics of things that aren’t bumper stickers at all!
The execution on this app is pretty good, but I’d like it a lot more if you could just page through individual photos like you can with I Can Has Cheezburger. Right now you can flip through pages of photos, but to view individual pics you have to tap to view and then tap again to go back to the gallery (edit: you can also enlarge the page view so it only shows one pic at a time). The app is free so I guess there’s no harm in trying it out, but lower your expectations… chances are you’ll be ready to delete this app within 10 minutes cuz that’s about how long it’ll take for you to look at *all* the bumper stickers this app has to offer! Yeah, I know this app wants to be a user-generated collection that grows on its own, but it’s just not there yet and the small content base isn’t helping.

- Somewhat amusing but not what I'd call 'hilarious'
- Ok this one's funny
- Hey what a coincidence... me too!
- Read the name of the app people! BUMPER STICKERS!
- Nice that you can adjust the size of the pages with the slider at the bottom

Sitting around waiting for your battery to be fully charged is dumb! With BatteryFull + (Alarm) you’ll still have to sit around, but at least you won’t have to check it every 5 minutes… just wait for the app to tell you when your battery is at 100%.
