Free Codes: gUnit – Unit Converter, part I
Michael (Admin) | Oct 27, 2009 Free iPhone Promo Codes, Productivity

Remember that scene from Die Hard: With a Vengeance where Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson had to pour water from one bottle to another and then weigh it or else a bomb would blow everyone to kingdom come? I bet it would have been easier if they had gUnit! Or not. I don’t really remember the scene that well.

sdk IQ for iPhone
Michael (Admin) | Oct 26, 2009 Reference

I’ve always been curious about how iPhone apps get made so I downloaded sdk IQ for iPhone… and I still have no idea! My brain just isn’t wired this way, so understanding what’s covered in this app is way, way beyond my empty skull’s ability.
Even though I don’t understand anything in this guide, I can tell you that it includes walkthroughs and sample code for everything from basic stuff for early learners to SQLite to Cocoa Touch to getting your app into the App Store. It all seems pretty thorough to my very untrained eye… once again, I’m not a programmer so I might as well be looking at a guide written in Klingon… but one thing I’ve noticed is that there are various “Watch video demo” links throughout the guide that don’t seem to work. Edit: I guess they do work, but they look like they don’t due to a usability issue that will be fixed in the next update. See Cygen’s explanation in the comments for more.

Treat Street
Michael (Admin) | Oct 26, 2009 Games

Need a diversion to keep the toddlers busy? Treat Street should fit the bill, for this week anyway!
Treat Street is a painfully cute trick-or-treating game where the goal is the same as in real life: ring a lot of doorbells and accumulate as much candy as you possibly can. There’s no score to keep and no possible way to lose… except for the rare occasion when a mean neighbor gives you something weird like an insect instead of candy.
You start off by choosing your costume with a 3-piece mix & match costume builder, and while you’re making your way down the neverending street you can check out your loot with the candy bag icon in the bottom right of the screen.
This is Elf Farm’s first release and they’re off to a great start with this very nicely made app. The game concept is super simple by design but the artwork and production values are awesome, and if it keeps your kids quiet for five minutes then it’s a dollar well spent.

- Something tells me this kid gets beat up a lot at school
- Tap the owl and other props for Halloween-y sound effects
- Ring the bell or knock on the door
- Hey, this ain't a piece of candy!
- And you wonder why your kids are hyperactive head cases

POV: iChowdown (Mr. Dumb EP3)
Swain Valasek | Oct 24, 2009 Games, POV
* “POV” (Point of View) is a new feature that we’re testing out *
Zenux Lab’s rating: 8.0
IAR’s rating: 6.0
iChowdown from Zenux Lab is the third effort in the Mr. Dumb Series, all games of which feature the same hand-drawn art style, characters, and purposely low-brow humor. Worth noting that EP1 was reviewed by me here and EP2 is somewhat stillborn, likely in ‘Apple approval process limbo’. EP1 turned out to be a rather charming game so let’s see what the developer has to say about EP3 and I’ll provide the IAR point of view afterwards to see how iChowdown stacks up.

A Video Shaker – Funny Videos
Michael (Admin) | Oct 24, 2009 Entertainment, Free iPhone Promo Codes

I just spent 40 minutes watching videos on my iPhone and it’s A Video Shaker’s fault! Sure, I could just as easily fire up the default YouTube app and search for “funny”, but the results will be more or less the same every time unless I change the search term to something else.
A Video Shaker is a quick way to find some pretty funny stuff to watch just by shaking your device instead of trying to figure out what to search for. Not all of the videos are LOL funny… the first one I saw, “Sand Art”, was decidedly unfunny but still somewhat interesting… but the vast majority are legitimately entertaining.
Videos can be added to a Favorites list by tapping the star icon in the top right corner of the screen, and the app keeps a history of videos you’ve watched.
BlackMuse Software has provided several rounds worth of codes to hand out so, if you miss out on this group, don’t fret – more will be posted later today! And if you want this app but miss out on the free codes completely, just buy it… there are much worse ways to spend a buck.

Little brothers are evil... and funny!

I love sleeping in, but rolling out of bed at 5:30 pm really puts a cramp in my day! Oh well… my crazy sleep schedule has nothing do with price comparison which is what CompareMe is all about.
If you’re wondering whether that 40 oz. bottle of ketchup at Costco is really a better deal than buying smaller bottles at the grocery store, wonder no more!
