I’ve always wanted a radio-controlled helicopter! They just seem so full of possibilities, like having an oversized pet insect to fly around the house, but after flying a virtual chopper around in RC Heli I’m pretty sure that if I had a real one I’d just wind up destroying my walls and/or taking a rotor blade in the face.
Ethervision’s RC Heli – Indoor Racing is a really well done RC helicopter simulator that comes with free flight and race modes, a nice suburban house to fly around in, and there’s also a great tutorial that teaches you how to control the two joysticks that move your aircraft to and fro. Be warned though… controlling pitch and yaw is a lot harder than working a steering wheel and gas pedal! I suppose this is probably because most of us have never tried it before in real life, but with some practice even a total moron will get it eventually.

I have a sneaking suspicion this app will appeal more to teenagers than anyone else, but don’t let that stop you from getting this app if you’re an old codger still playing the field.

Ok, you don’t have to be pregnant for this one! But it does help if you have a kid around to use it on… Time Smart’s goal is to teach your young ‘un some concept of time with two clocks.
One shows the time now, and the other shows the target time when something will happen (playtime ends, time to go to bed, time to make the donuts, etc.). When the two clocks look the same, an alarm probably goes off. The App Store description doesn’t specifically say that this happens, but such a grand finale would certainly make sense.

Pssst… I got a hot tip on tonight’s Monday Night Football game… it’s gonna be an UPSET! Miami’s gonna win!
Well on second thought, this is a pretty bad example since the NY Jets are only favored by 1 point which basically makes this game a tossup. Even iBetFootball PRO will tell you “DO NOT BET!!!” this game because it’s just too close to predict. What it does recommend, however, is that you take the Over which is 36 because iBetFootball is predicting the final score to total 39. Still pretty close, but hey it’s called gambling for a reason, right?
iBetFootball makes its predictions based on past game data, so in theory it should become more accurate as the football season goes on. How accurate was it this past weekend, you ask? Well, let’s see…

Roadkill Cafe is on sale for *free*! Normal price is $.99 – $1.99
I confess that I’ve only spent about 15 minutes playing this game, but I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say drop what you’re doing and get Roadkill Cafe right now while it’s still free!
It’s funny, it’s gross, it’s well produced, and on top of all that it’s four games in one. The main game has you driving around an odd looking roadkill-scooping-vehicle, and you need to pick up all the dead animals that are constantly getting smushed in traffic so you can deliver them to the cafe where hungry customers are waiting!
In Survivor mode you simply have to dodge traffic for as long as possible, Vengeance is very similar but instead you’re dodging chickens, and in Rampage you’re driving along a Spy Hunter-ish highway where you have to mow down as much roadkill as you can while also avoiding collisions with other cars.
Roadkill Cafe respects the iPod, has global high score boards, and comes with three different control schemes (choosing one is a game in itself) and even if you miss out on this sale I’d say go for it if you’re in the mood for something new! I don’t think there are hours and hours of gameplay here, but it’s still a very good game for just a buck or two.

Dragon Portals comes to us from MythPeople (casual games brand of Finnish-based 10tons Ltd), the same folks behind the wonderful Azkend (reviewed here). At its core we have basic match 3 gameplay but the innovative play mechanics and slick presentation create a very different feel that stands out from other titles in the genre. I would have published this review weeks ago but I was waiting on an update that fixed a major crash bug. The developer was as good as their word though and the update finally arrived so here we are; onward to the review!
