When it came time to give Farm Frenzy 2 a test drive, I was- I’ll admit- kinda looking forward to it.  The description of the game sounded like it had a lot in common with a certain Facebook game involving farms:  growing grass, feeding farm animals, collecting eggs, taking produce to the market, making buildings, etc.

The game began simply enough.  I was given a couple of chickens that had to be enticed to lay so many eggs which then had to be collected in order to proceed to the next level.  The chickens would only lay eggs after eating grass, so a barren field with a well off to the background had to be grown.  After so much grass was planted a certain number of times, the well ran dry and had to be replenished.

There was also a truck and a plane available that could be used to take items into town for money or to bring items back to your farm.

With each new level, there were additional tasks or goals.  Buildings had to be purchased or upgraded, products produced (cakes, steaks, and apparel), and bears avoided.  Yes, I said that correctly: bears had to be avoided.  If not, they would bat my chickens (and other livestock) away to kingdom come and I would have to either buy replacement chickens or restart the level because I’d run out of money.

The order in which a task is begun is crucial.  If I didn’t buy enough chickens, it would take too long to produce eggs that I then had to take into town to acquire money that I needed to fill the well. If the well ran out of water, I couldn’t grow grass.  No grass meant I didn’t have any food for the chickens.  No food for the chickens meant they died.  Dead chickens made no eggs.

There’s a lot more to the game, where there are other kinds of bears, building upgrades, and farm animals, but I haven’t reached those levels yet.

I was pleasantly surprised by how engaging and addictive Farm Frenzy 2 turned out to be.  The initial levels were a bit slow, but things picked up considerably around Level Four once I had become relatively comfortable.  So much so, that I found myself feeling a little frantic to get everything done as quickly as possible and stay on top of everything happening around me.  Let’s just say that you learn the importance of multitasking fairly fast in this game.

So if you’re looking for a fun diversion, Farm Frenzy 2 will not disappoint.  And if you’re feeling a bit skeptical, try out the lite version first for a taste of what the full version has to offer.
