Boxterity

Boxterity is the mutated offspring of “Where’s Waldo” and “The Rubix Cube”.
I have to say that I’m pretty impressed with Boxterity. I don’t say this very often about an iPhone game but the way Boxterity presents itself is downright sexy. I’m not the type to play puzzle games but SoftMosis had me hooked from the very beginning with the whole comic/cell shaded look. Not to say that the only reason I like this game is for it’s aesthetic beauty, the game play is original and challenging, it’s just in a world where so many app developers develop games for a quick buck and skimp out on delivering a quality product, its nice to see some people are still putting forth the effort out to make a seriously professional game.
Like most iPhone puzzle games, the concept is pretty straight forward: solve the puzzle in as little time as possible. To do this, you must locate the color on the rubix cube like object that corresponds with the color in the background. In the early levels, it’s possible to pass each challenge by only looking for the color present in the background, but in the later levels it’s imperative that you plan ahead and position the camera to where you can get several of the colors without wasting your time finding each individual color. This is made possible by the list in the upper right hand corner that displays in order all the colors you need to find.
When I was getting to the more graphic intense areas (the levels with bigger rubix cubes) there was an occasional drop in frame rate when I played on my iPhone 3G. Obviously, if you have a third generation iTouch or the iPhone 3GS it won’t be a problem. Other than that, I don’t really have much to complain about. I think some sort local scoreboard should be added though.
I’ve played some seriously shitty games for the iPhone and Boxterity is not one of them. My hat goes off to you, SoftMosis. Great job.
