Rack Stare – The Sex Game (Free) by Venevi
Available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad
Rack Stare is currently #21 in the Top 25 Free section in the App Store
With all the great but unknown apps out there, part of me wants to weep for humanity when apps like Rack Stare make it into the coveted Top 25 list.
The idea is pretty unique in that you’re interacting with actual video clips which is exactly why I decided to give this “game” a try, but come on! I adore nice cleavage as much as the next guy, but there’s gotta be a better use for this technology than making a “geek” steal glances at the hot blonde sitting next to him.

Third Planet
Chris Sutton | Nov 30, 2011 Games

Third Planet ($0.99) by Nikita Saraev
Available on iPad only
Since the release of ‘Fruit Ninja’ hundreds of similar titles have been made available on the app store. Some are refreshing and add to the see-and-swipe formula, but most fail. Third planet is more an example of the latter, asking players to swipe away asteroids before they connect with earth. The physics are fine, responding well to the touch, but the lack of depth is a problem.
More free apps for Cyber Monday!
Michael (Admin) | Nov 28, 2011 Games
Attention Cyber Monday shoppers: Put down your credit card and check out the games below! They’re good. And they’re free right now.
All of the games below are free as of right now. App store prices change fast and often, so don’t dilly dally if you see something you want!
Robokill (Free) (iTunes)
Normal price: $.99-$1.99
Every time I play a new game my first instinct is to compare it to something I know, and Robokill kind of reminds me that old but completely awesome arcade shooter Robotron. There’s way more gameplay here than Robotron ever had, but the crazy omnidirectional battles in Robokill do feel familiar in that way.
Robokill is a beautiful top-down shooter that’s got it all. My only complaint is that this kind of two-stick game control inevitably means your thumbs will get in the way at some point, but I think that just comes with the territory when playing this kind of game.
CSMania Reloaded (Free) (iTunes)
Normal price: $.99-$1.99
This is a pretty kickass skeet shooting game! The thing that makes it so cool is that it uses the iPhone’s gyroscope. Gyroscope control was introduced with the release of iPhone 4 last year but I have to confess this is my first experience playing a game that you physically have to move beyond the limits of the good ol’ accelerometer.
Virtual skeet shooting on its own usually isn’t that hard, but the gyroscope movement makes it a challenge! And it’s also more fun. Take this one for a spin. Literally.

Absolute Instant (Free) (iTunes)
Normal price: $.99-$1.99
I’ve played my share of top-down iPhone aerial shooters with my all-time favorites being iFighter and SkySmash 1918. Absolute Instant is right up there with them, and it’s not because of the strange Biblical intro story. It’s because of TELEPORTATION! A lot of aerial shooters look like they could have rolled off the same assembly line, but Absolute Instant is different and the ability to teleport out of a sh*tstorm of enemy fire is a big reason it’s unique.
Absolute Instant features all the hallmarks of a successful shooter… smart bombs, weapon upgrades, boss fights, etc… and the teleporting is great. Another big difference is in the artwork. This thing actually reminds me of Final Fantasy which is kind of weird considering most games in this genre have a decidedly retro look to them.
This is a great game for fans of this genre. Get it!
Free Apps for Cyber Monday!
Michael (Admin) | Nov 28, 2011 Games
Need a break from all the post-Thanksgiving madness? Check out these freebies! They’re good. Btw, when did they start doing Cyber Mondays?? I’ve been online practically every day since 1997 and I didn’t know it was an actual “thing” until about three days ago…
All of the games below are free as of right now. App store prices change fast and often, so don’t dilly dally if you see something you want!
JewelUp (Free) (iTunes)
Normal price: $.99
The “match 3″ game genre (think Bejeweled) was overdone a long time ago, but it’s still fun to play new versions when they’re good, right? Just drag your finger across like-colored gems and if you plan your moves right you can hit some cool bonuses in JewelUp. Connect a big enough chain and JewelUp will lavish you with compliments that range from “Impressive” to “Godlike”! Plus the graphics are pretty sweet.

Nautilus – The Submarine Adventure (Free) (iTunes)
Normal price: $.99
According to the makers of Nautilus – The Submarine Adventure, our poor planet will be completely underwater in 2012! Well that sucks… unless your name is Captain Nemo and you’ve got your own homemade submarine. Your mission in Nautilus is to guide the captain’s vessel around wreckage as you seek out survivors and more oxygen to continue your watery mission.
Controls are simple, just press and hold to make the sub sink, release to let it rise. It’s a pretty good casual game! Gameplay is decent and the graphics are nice so I’d say it’s worth a download.
LED Basketball 78 (Free) (iTunes)
Normal price: $.99
The App Store description for LED Basketball says it’s supposed to be free until yesterday, so if you want this I suggest you grab it right now! I downloaded LED Football from the same maker (touchGrove) over a year ago and I still play it from time to time. Their line of classic LED sports games are the real deal! They’re extremely faithful reproductions of those crappy yet strangely entertaining games that guys like me used to play when dinosaurs roamed the earth.
Like I said… hurry up and get it! Oh and btw, LED Soccer (iTunes) is also free right now.
Note: The image below is the actual app, not a pic of an old basketball game!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Turkey Day to all of IAR’s readers in the US of A! Be nice to your family… you never know which one of them might give you an iPhone or iPad for Christmas! :)

| Left dog: Be careful what table scraps you give to your dog this Thanksgiving. Many are toxic to dogs. Do your research and NO turkey bones!! |
| Middle dog:Luckily I’m vegan so I don’t have to worry! |
| Right dog: Bwaaa haha, right Twinkle sure you are. If you’re a vegan I’m a wolf hybrid. |
Xenocube SD
Clint | Nov 22, 2011 Games

XenoCube SD ($.99) by Digital Embryo
Available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad
Xenocube SD is another “match three” game wrapped up in a pretty package of vibrant graphics and a well-designed, albeit slightly flawed user interface. Xenocube SD essentially presents itself as a 3D puzzler involving a large, rotating, six-sided Rubik’s Cube. The player is then given the task of matching three alike colors either vertically or horizontally on any of the cube’s six planes. The xenocube levitates allowing the user to simply swipe at the cube to send it spinning allowing access to all six sides. This is where one of the few problems I had with the game surfaced. My wife always tells me to be more gentle frequently citing that old song “I want a man with a slow hand…” I guess my lack of finesse is not limited to the bedroom because I frequently found myself spinning the Xenocube on what seemed like a perpetual death spin causing me to lose precious time in my quest to find matches. Another problem I had with the game was the inconceivable use of 3D. I am unaware of any iPhone, iPad, or iPod that utilizes a stereoscopic 3D display, so I was a little baffled by what the 3D intensity slider actually did. After playing around with the 3D effect and finding it more cumbersome than beneficial, I simply turned it off and what followed was a rather enjoyable experience.
Video Squeak
Michael (Admin) | Nov 22, 2011 Entertainment

Video Squeak ($0.99) by appkruti
Available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad
I just thought of a very festive and potentially hilarious use for Video Squeak: gather your kids or coworkers or drunk friends, and use Video Squeak to make a video of them singing that Christmas song by Alvin and the Chipmunks! They can do it in their normal voices, or they can try to imitate the Chipmunks’ trademark squeakiness, and the ensuing Video Squeak-ed result will have everyone literally LOLing and you’ll be the hero of the party!
Below is a piss-poor effort on my part to show what this app does to voices with the pitch cranked up to about 80-90%. I should have made my friends sit there and tell jokes or something.

Rolling Star Free
Michael (Admin) | Nov 21, 2011 Games

Rolling Star Free (free) by zgame
Available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad
I’m gonna start off by saying that Rolling Star Free would be getting 4 stars if the developer could make up their mind about the “free” revenue model… sell upgrades, sell levels, or run ads? Unfortunately zgame is doing all three of those things which kind of ruins what is otherwise a pretty decent puzzle game (the video below doesn’t show the ads). Developers certainly have the right to make a buck when they give away their work for “free”, but this kind of overkill is really a turnoff.
So anyway… Rolling Star Free! You tilt your device to roll a Boy star through obstacle courses with the ultimate goal of hooking up with Girl star. Succeed and you move on to the next level; fail and the poor Girl star bursts into tears.

Astrolotease
Michael (Admin) | Nov 21, 2011 Games

Astrolotease ($.99) by Astrolotease
Available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad
In the interest of full disclosure, this app was created by IAR’s very own Lorraine Rylance who recently reviewed Capture Them! I didn’t know she was involved in app development when she came onboard but, since Astrolotease just recently got approved by Apple, Lorraine asked me for my thoughts on her work.
Astrolotease is basically a slot-machine-style matching game where you have to tap each reel as it spins and hopefully match the sign, symbol, and the.. uh… appropriate quote. Luckily everything is color coded so even if you’re like me and know next to nothing about astrological signs it’s still possible to come out a winner.

Bag It!
Michael (Admin) | Nov 18, 2011 Games

Bag It! ($.99 on iPhone and $2.99 on iPad) by Hidden Variable Studios
Available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad
I have to admit I was kind of expecting Bag It! to suck pretty hard… I mean, bagging groceries doesn’t sound like too much fun, right? Wrong! This is a surprisingly fun and engaging puzzle game where your job is to arrange groceries in a bag with different goals in mind depending on the game mode you’re playing.
The default game mode’s goal is to fit everything into an empty bag without breaking anything and it’s decent, but Rampage and Puzzle modes are really where Bag It! earns its stripes.
Internet Explorer = bad browser!
Michael (Admin) | Nov 17, 2011 Website Stuff
If you’ve tried to come to IAR recently via Microsoft’s wonderful Internet Explorer browser but were met with the classic message “a script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly”… it’s finally fixed!!
Apparently IE didn’t like a Facebook plugin I was using even though Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera all thought it was just super.
C’mon folks, if you’re using IE pleeeease do yourself a favor and switch! Your life on the internet will be easier, I promise. Oh and btw:
Browsers. Are. Free. No really, they are!
