Dear comic book nerds: if you pride yourselves on knowing everything about every superhero and comic book character known to man, get this app and put your money where your mouth is! Ok, there’s no money involved because the app is free, but this is a really tough comic quiz. It tests your knowledge of characters from comic book lore with big, blocky pixelated renderings and you have to fill in the blanks.

The pixel images of the characters you’re supposed to identify are really good for the most part, and any shortcomings could easily be blamed on the inherent lack of detail that this kind of artwork entails. Be warned, though… not every character is a hero! Some are villains, and some are just prominent supporting characters such as a certain cigar-smoking a-hole who runs a newspaper and likes to yell at Peter Parker.

If you’re completely stumped, PixelWorld will give you a letter as a clue, and after your next wrong guess you’ll get a short hint, and a third hint will come if you need it. I won’t lie… I had no idea who some of these characters were so I went straight to Google and Wikipedia for my “hints”.

This really is a pretty fun app for hardcore comic fans, but since I’m just a casual observer I kind of wish there was a “surrender” button or something that would just show me the character’s name. If no amount of googling or guessing yields the answer you need then you’re stuck and can’t move on to the next level! There are six levels, and I’m hopelessly stuck at level 3, the “Collector” level. I know. I suck.
