For some strange reason – probably because I’m a geek and a safety nut – I really wanted to try this app. And I wanted to like it. In retrospect, I’m not entirely sure what I expected an app full of safety signs to do. I’m not sure I am any farther ahead with that question now that I’ve actually tried it.

There are some benefits to this app. First of all, and most importantly, it’s free. Secondly, a couple of the signs in the “other” category presented some mild amusement, such as the ‘Warning: Falling Penguins’ one.

Overall though, I’m not entirely sure what this app is intended to do. It may be useful for studying for a driving test, or a WHMIS or HAZMAT test, but I think the developer would find a better audience by categorizing the app as Education, instead of Entertainment.

Thanksgiving Match by Jirbo: It’s not a holiday if you’re not playing an ad-supported holiday-themed Jirbo game!

TGI Black Friday by Ecatcher: I don’t know why the day after Thanksgiving, the busiest shopping day of the year, is called Black Friday but it is, and this app’s aim is to show you Black Friday ads before they hit the newspapers.

Turkey Tumble by Rich Olson: Launch cans of cranberry sauce at crates in order to get the turkey to the ground safely.

100+ Halloween Costumes by iPhoneCodeTutorials.com: If you’re desperate for a Halloween costume idea maybe this app can help?

Manic Pumpkin by Rich Olson: Roll your pumpkin downhill and jump it off ramps through a very Halloweeny 3D course! There’s also a non-Halloween-themed version called Manic Marble.

Ghostbuster by Geek Quarter: Capture at least 35 ghosts to advance to the next level. Sorry, this game has nothing to do with the movie!

Funhouse of Horrors 01 Digital Comic! by Carnival Comics: Like comics? Oh sorry, I mean “graphic novels”? This is an iPhone-ized version of Jazan Wild’s Funhouse of Horrors.

AdLibs Lite: Halloween Edition by E.E. Flobes: I reviewed this applast year… not bad! If you remember MadLibs from when you were little, this app will feel very familiar.

Warp Defense by FX Marketing: If you like TD (tower defense) games, get this one before it goes back up to $.99!

PandoraBox by by AppZap: Admit it, you look forward to our Random Freebies because you’re too cheap to pay for apps! It’s ok, we’re cheap, too. PandoraBox tracks price reductions in the App Store to make it easier for you to find stuff that’s free or at least cheaper.

Fling! by CandyCane: I think a lot of developers like to announce fake “sale” prices for their apps, but this one looks legit. Fling! is normally $2 but it’s free right now and looks like a quality time-waster, so grab it for nothing while you can!

Volkswagen Scirocco R 24H Challenge 3D by FISHLABS: Yes, this game is all about product marketing… but it also looks like it has tons of potential to be a fun way to snag some free Fahrfegnugen or whatever you call it.

A Quest of Knights Onrush by Chillingo: Control one badass knight wearing a manhole cover over his face as he battles the oncoming horde!

SPACE DEADBEEF by I.D.P.: This game was actually reviewed back in December of last year, but the name is funny enough and the game is good enough that it’s worth mentioning one more time.

PapiMissile by Sunflat: If you’ve been around the App Store for long enough you already know who Papi is… this time around he’s in a Missile Command-like situation where he has to shoot down incoming rockets. Papi always keeps it super simple but everyone seems to like the red ball guy.

Blackjack World ♠ Monte Carlo by Candywriter: I doubt it’s better than Avalinx’s 21 Pro, but if it even comes close then this should be a freebie worth installing!

JellyCar by Walaber: This one used to be in the Top 25, but it’s still free! Very cool and very frustrating game.

Yahoo! Fantasy Football ’09 by Yahoo!: If you’re playing fantasy football on Yahoo! you just gotta get this app, no question about it

Qik by Qik, Inc.: For 3GS users only, Qik is for shooting & sharing videos via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, SMS, email, and maybe a couple of other methods… I dunno, I’m still stuck with a 3G!

Have2P by AT&T Interactive R&D: When you’re sliding into first and your pants are about to burst… you know the next line, right? Have2P is for finding a place to do your business. Probably awesome if you have kids with badly-timed bladders.

iCandyPix Sexy Pics + iCandyPix Vol. 2 by Keyvisuals: Normally I wouldn’t bother with bikini apps, but this one lets you stick the girls into your own photos! Haha, pretty funny.

9/11 Numbers by Stalefish Labs: I saved this one for last because it’s such a downer, but it’s also appropriate since today is the eighth anniversary of the destruction of the World Trade Center in NYC. It spits out various numbers and statistics related to that very, very bad day in 2001

The name may be different, but the untested freebies are just as free!

imeem Mobile by imeem – You like genre-based streaming music but, in an effort to fight the power, you refuse to join the Pandora army… maybe imeem is what you’re looking for!

Flood-It! by LabPixies – With an average rating of 3.5 stars from nearly 11,000 reviews I have a feeling this app may have graced the Top 25 at some point but I’m not sure

Discovery Channel by (duh) Discovery Channel: I’m not surprised this app is at #1 right now – it looks like a smorgasbord of DC’s nerdy-but-cool educational content… videos, behind-the-scenes show info, photo galleries, TV schedule, all that.

Bump by Bump Technologies: I’ve actually used this one and it works as advertised (and as shown in the iPhone commercial)! Select your info from Contacts, your fellow Bumper does the same, and with a quick bump the info somehow gets traded between both devices. Pretty cool.

Mover by Infinite Labs: I think this one was featured in a recent iPhone commercial, too. Connect to the same wifi network as another device, both open Mover, and you’re supposed to be able to swipe stuff back and forth between the devices. I’ll be trying this one out for real next week.

textPlus by GOGII: 17,557 ratings can’t be wrong! Plus I’ve gotten some SMS messages myself from a friend in Norway who uses this app. It sends free text messages (yes, from iPod Touch, too) to U.S. mobile numbers from anywhere in the world! Sweet.

Offender Locator Lite by ThinAir Wireless: Find out if rapists and child molesters live on your street!

All 57 Games Free by DS Effects: 57 free games! BUT… user reviews are overwhelmingly bad, so lower your expectations on this one.

Taxi Magic by RideCharge Inc.: You’re hammered and a DUI is the last thing you (or the people you’re about to kill) need right now. Get a cab! NFL players may be able to get away with it but you won’t.

HomeBudget Lite by Anishu Inc.: You spent $900 last month on entertainment and only $46 on groceries? Well done, my friend.

Quicken Online Mobile by Intuit, Inc.: Sign up for the free Quicken Online and you can use this app to remind you of just how close you are to complete financial ruin!
