App Sale: kgb Answers
Michael (Admin) | Dec 2, 2009 App Sale Alert, Utilities

kgb Answers is on sale for free – normally $.99-$1.99
Chances are you’ve seen the commercials where people ask wacky questions and this hot lady shows up with some dood and they give the answer. The core service asks you to text your question to kgb and they’ll give you an actual answer for a dollar, and this iPhone-ized version is basically the same thing except you’re submitting your question via the app.
So if you have to pay for answers, why does this app usually cost money? Uhh… I have no idea! It provides three free answers so there’s definitely some value in getting this app, but personally I think it should always be free since it’s basically a sales tool to get you to start leaning on kgb’s “Special Agents” for the knowledge you crave.
So far I’ve used only 2 of my 3 free answers and I’m somewhat impressed with the result. Apparently an actual person reviews your question and finds the answer for you… my first answer didn’t take too long, maybe a few minutes… and even though it wasn’t exactly the answer I was looking for, I like that the response was real and not some canned garbage from a program running an algorithm.
If kgb’s commercials have you curious as to the quality of their responses, try this app and take them for a test drive. Again, though, I think kgb Digital Media would be wise to keep this app free forever.
- Naturally my question is small and self-serving! But still something I want to know...
- AWWW SNAP! That's what I get for slacking lately... but I'm working on ways to get more content to you, our loyal readers
Dayyyyaaaaamn, kgb lady’s got a hot body!

App Sale: 1Password Pro
Michael (Admin) | Nov 24, 2009 App Sale Alert, Utilities

1Password Pro is on sale for free – normally $7.99
I’ve been using Memengo’s Wallet Pro for a quite a while now, but 1Password Pro kind of makes me want to switch!
Not only does it provide a way to store your passwords, it also features an in-app browser that will automatically log you in with the login info you’ve stored in the app. It also features a dual-layer kind of security thing… to access the app you need to enter a 4-digit passcode, and you can add an additional master password to more sensitive items.
Possibly the thing I like best is that you can back up your encrypted password data locally on your computer rather than on someone else’s server.
I just installed 1Password Pro today so I haven’t really been able to run it through all the paces, but so far I really like what I see. This app at full price will cost you $8 and right now it’s zero, so if you need something like this now is the time to get it!

FacebookBirthdays
Michael (Admin) | Nov 17, 2009 Utilities

Here’s the good news on FacebookBirthdays: it does what it says it does by listing all of your Facebook friends by month and showing when their birthday is. I just installed this app yesterday so I can’t speak to how well the push feature works, but let’s give it the benefit of the doubt in that area and assume it works.
Here’s the bad news on FacebookBirthdays: it doesn’t do anything else! There are several other apps that also display Facebook birthday info plus a little more, and I think that’s ok if this app would just be the best at it… but gosh darnit, it doesn’t even have an options panel, and the “Today & Upcoming” only shows birthdays from my Contacts instead of Facebook. I like that it shows birthdays from my Contacts, but that’s not the main purpose of this app.
If my name were Konstantinos and I had the ability to make this app way better than it currently is, here’s what I’d do…

Exclusive Preview: Top Rated Apps
Michael (Admin) | Nov 11, 2009 Utilities
It’s hard to believe that the App Store started off with around 500 apps and that was about 16 months ago! Since then it’s exploded into a gigantic mess of over 85,000 apps… some are awesome and some suck so bad they just make you want to cry.
Browsing on the iPhone for apps that are worthwhile is becoming a real pain in the ass, and that’s where Top Rated Apps comes in. I haven’t tried it myself yet because it’s still going through Apple’s review process, but the idea is to weed out all the garbage… MF Software’s editors have hand-selected thousands of apps that they believe are worth your time, and also featured are over 600 apps that have user ratings of at least 4 stars. To qualify for the 4 star minimum, apps must have at least 10 reviews. It’s no secret that the first few reviews on a lot of apps are from the developer’s buddies so this is a good move, but I have to wonder if 10 is enough. With so many apps crowding the field, I think that minimum could be raised to at least 20 without losing too much.
Once Top Rated Apps is released you’ll be able to browse offline and add apps to a Favorites list so you can buy them later.
Below are a few screenshots provided by the MF Software. The app will be selling for $1.99.
- Apps are separated into categories just like the App Store
- Add stuff to a Favorites list

Free Codes: Fix It

Someone asked yesterday if any new reviews are on the way and the answer is yes! Lately I’ve been posting a lot of codes because I got a ton of them all at once and they needed to be released.
Speaking of reviews, I reviewed Fix It a while back and it’s pretty handy if you have tons of duplicate contacts.

If you’re constantly handing out money to your broke friends and relatives, you should probably go see an orthopedist to see if he can fit you with a spine! Until that happens, you might want to invest in an app like mooch… it keeps track of who’s borrowed what and how much all those bums owe you in total.
