Q&F: Mover
Michael (Admin) | Aug 28, 2009 Entertainment, Quick & Free

Wheeee this is fun
It *almost* works just like you’ve seen in the iPhone commercials… Mover lets you move photos and contacts from one device to another via either wifi or bluetooth, and they get automatically saved which is a really nice feature.
I say “almost” because sometimes the transfer is smooth and instant like the commercial, and sometimes it takes a few seconds for the receiving iPhone/iPod to get what you just slid over. And sometimes it just hangs and you’re not sure what Mover’s doing, and then the transfer happens much later than you were expecting.
For the most part it works and it’s fun to do, so for the low, low price of Free it’s worth grabbing, if for no other reason than to try it out and wow (or possibly disappoint) the crowd gathered around you. There’s also a paid version of Mover called Mover+ which I haven’t tried, but for $2 hopefully Infinite Labs was able to make it more stable than this freebie.

mimic: sync fb photos
Michael (Admin) | Aug 11, 2009 Social Networking

The title of this app kind of says it all: mimic syncs profile photos from your Facebook friends to your contacts. Cool concept! But does it work?
mimic’s “design”, if you can call it that, is an exercise in minimalism. It’s simply a blue screen with a brief description of what the app’s about to do plus a “Connect” button, and once you provide your login info it goes right to work. I have 169 Facebook friends but I wasn’t really expecting to get 169 photos since some of my contacts on my iPhone aren’t named exactly the same way as they are on Facebook. I was, however, expecting more than 16 photos to get synced which was my grand total after mimic did its thing.
Fix It – Fix Labels & Find Duplicates
Michael (Admin) | Aug 11, 2009 Utilities

If you’re as lazy and disorganized as I am you’ve probably got duplicates all over the place in your iPhone contacts. Fix It’s job is to make it easy to remove the duplicates and it also lets you rearrange a few labels within your contacts which I don’t really see a need for but the feature’s there so yay, I guess.
As far as cleaning up the contacts goes, Fix It does make it pretty easy in most respects. It will find contacts that are duplicated and group them together so that you can choose which ones to get rid of or, if it’s one of those mysterious names that makes you go “who the hell is that??”, you can delete the contact and all duplicates with just two quick taps.
SmileDial Pro

Finally someone has made a contacts list for people who despise reading! SmileDial Pro by Dejal Systems has streamlined my contacts list into pictures!
SmileDial Pro allows you to use pictures, instead of text for your contacts. Setup is painless as it takes your existing contacts and links it with a picture of your choice (although not all at once). Then flip through the full screen pictures of your friends, co-workers and that elderly postal worker you befriended in the autumn of ’94. Once you find who you’re looking for you’re given two choices: Tap the top half of the photo to text or the bottom half to call. So simple, an ape or a physical education teacher can use it!
It’s easy to use and I really love sorting through the contacts by picture. Seems like something Apple should have developed. However, it does have a few limitations. First, you can only have one number per contact to call. So if you need to the ability to call the same person at different numbers, this may not be up your alley. Also, the flipping tended to be slow at times, but not enough to ruin it.
I’d use this instead of my favorites list, but it won’t replace my contacts list…yet. If you hate reading or need a simple way to contact friends when you’re at a watering hole, this $3.99 app has serious potential and is worth a look.
- Choose from contacts or enter them manually
- If this guy knew I was tapping his face he'd be none too pleased
