Sudoku!
Sara | Jan 1, 2010 Games

Sudoku, everyone’s favorite Japanese puzzle game. It first became popular a couple years ago and spread from newspapers to hand held games to finally the iPhone. Of course you know how to play, right? If you answered, “No,” to that question, you should Google it. This sudoku app designed by Mayan Software is cheap, fun, addictive, and did I mention cheap?
For only $.99 you get 20,000 that’s right, 20,000 different puzzles! That divides up to 4,000 puzzles per level. If you played a puzzle a day, it would take you about 54 years to complete every puzzle! Now that is a worth-your-dollar app! The levels range from easy to devilish. And when they say easy, it’s not, “This is sooooooooo boring,” easy, but, “Wow, I actually have to think,” easy. It took me 7 1/2 minutes to complete the first puzzle, so I can’t imagine how long it would take me to do a devilish level puzzle 8O . Either I am stupid, or this app is really challenging!

iToons
Sara | Jan 1, 2010 Lifestyle

Have you ever had that strange craving for your favorite comic, but not had a newspaper nearby? Or have you been stuck in a plane/train/car with nothing to do? Well if you love comics, then iToons is the app for you! At only $.99, this app developed by Brite systems Inc is a steal considering it has a library of 34 different comics ranging from Adam At Home to Ziggy. Although some of my favorite comics like Pearls Before Swine and Dilbert were missing from the list, there were many great ones like BC, Garfield, and Cathy.
The set up of the app is very simple and easy to use. You go into settings, and just flip the on/off switch next to the desired comics you want to read. I did have some problems with the app. Some of the comics were longer than the iPhone screen, so you had to scroll back and forth. It would have been better if the app could have made it so that you can view the comic panel by panel. That way you could slide to each panel as if viewing photos.

Where’s Waldo? The Fantastic Journey
Sara | Jan 1, 2010 Games
Imagine a game with pictures straight out of your favorite childhood picture finding book. Now combine that with the technology of an iPhone and the great game play from Ludia. Add some cute music, bundle it all together and you get Where’s Waldo? The Fantastic Journey.
This app is a Where’s Waldo book with some extras. The game is set up as an adventure game where you follow Waldo, Whitebeard the Wizard, Wendy, and other characters through a journey to collect the 12 mystical scrolls. When you collect all 12 scrolls, Whitebeard the Wizard will reveal to Waldo an important secret that Waldo has been searching for. At the start you can choose normal game play or kids. The kids version is noticeably easier as it will make sure the item/person you are looking for is always in the area it brings you (in other words, you don’t have to move the screen view around).

Q&F: Braineo
Sara | Jan 1, 2010 Games

Recently, I downloaded the free app Braineo by Veriunique Productions, Inc. It is a fun memory game. The object seemed simple enough: study the picture, answer the questions, and get points. However, I soon learned it was harder than I thought. The questions were rather specific such as, “What color was the largest light bulb?” I aced the first couple of rounds, but my score started to go down the drain when I reached the more complex pictures. Every time I got a question wrong, a panda head would pop up and taunt me with phrases such as, “Your IQ is a negative integer.” After completing 18 questions, the panda prompts you to pay $.99 to have access to the other 11 levels. Although I would have liked the game to have a few more free levels, the game was fun and satisfactory.
- This dude's got a tiny brain!
- Braineo How-To
- The cute panda loves to insult you
- woohoo! I got 10,750!

Lip Service
Chrisa | Feb 5, 2009 Entertainment

Being the lippy broad that I am, I have been known on occasion to tell folks, “When I want you’re opinion, I’ll give it to you.” And finally, there’s an iPhone application that lets me do just that – insert my opinion into the mouths of those who should obey it, as if they were my own personal Charley McCarthy. If you don’t know who Charley McCarthy was, you’re either under 30 or under heavy sedation.
Lip Service by Deepwell Software lets you either take a photo or use an existing photo of some unsuspecting sap, put cartoony lips on them, and record something they should have been smart enough to say on their own. There are lots of goofy lips to choose from, and once you create your schtick, you can even email it to your victim and everyone he or she has ever met, for their own personal amusement.
It’s easy to use, and for $0.99, it’s cheap fun. Just be careful who you make fun of – at this price, they’ll buy it and get you right back.
- Choose a mouth, then record. The mouth moves with the soundtrack.
- I picked on my teenager, and emailed it to all his friends!
