Rage of Witches
Michael (Admin) | Nov 7, 2011 Games

Rage of Witches ($0.99) by Nob Studio
Available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad
I was in the mood to try something totally brainless… and I found it! Frankly I should have reviewed this app a week ago when witches and zombies were still in season, but since Nob Studio submitted this app on November 3rd that didn’t happen. Eh oh well.
So how do you play this game? Tap until your finger goes numb! The idea is to protect the poor peasants from all the scary weirdos that keep popping up out of nowhere. Zombies, witches, skeletons, ghosts, it’s kind of like Halloween is projectile vomiting all over the peasants you’re charged with guarding.
8 Great Halloween Apps
Michael (Admin) | Oct 31, 2011 Featured
We’ve reviewed a lot of Halloween apps over the past few years… here’s a quick look at some of our favorites!
Singing Pumpkins (Free) (iTunes)
Singing Pumpkins is just one of those Halloween soundboard apps… tap and hear a spooky sound, and this one also makes goofy musical notes… but if I remember correctly it’s really well done and the kids will probably get a kick out of it.
Halloween Postage ($1.99) (iTunes)
Take your Halloween pics and dress them up with this greeting card app! It’s pretty slick and if you’re sending kiddie costume pics to the grandparents I’m sure they’ll be impressed as hell.
C@rds Master (Free) (iTunes)
Halloween C@rds ($1.99) (iTunes)
The C@rds line of greeting cards covers pretty much every major Hallmark holiday, and the C@rds Master app contains a sampling of all of them with in-app purchasing if you want an entire set that’s specifically Halloween or Christmas or whatever. Or you just grab Halloween C@rds and be done with it. It’s one of the best greeting card apps out there! For realz.
Halloween Wordsearch (Free) (iTunes)
I’m a little old for wordsearch apps, but assuming your kids aren’t then this is a nice freebie to entertain them with!

Spooksfinder
Michael (Admin) | Oct 27, 2011 Entertainment

Spooksfinder ($.99) by nSpire Studios
Available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad
Chances are you already know how you’re going to honor paganism this Halloween weekend, but if you don’t then Spooksfinder might be able to help! The idea here is to give you a birdseye view of all the Halloween festivities going down in your area, and if you’re hosting something yourself then you can add it to the map.
Spooksfinder seems good at finding community events so it (probably) won’t direct you to any sorority costume parties but who knows what you’ll find out there.

Monster Munch ~ Halloween Feast
Michael (Admin) | Oct 27, 2011 Games

Monster Munch ~ Halloween Feast (Free) by Bluebear Technologies
Available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad
If you’ve ever played Sky Burger (or any of the 10 million games that are similar) then Monster Munch will feel very familiar… stuff falls from the sky, and you control the game by tilting left and right. The difference is that you’re not building any burgers… instead, you’re catching pumpkins while you try to dodge skulls that take away your extra lives. You also want to avoid Holy Water ‘cuz that will make your little Dracula character get big, and being big makes it harder to dodge the evil skulls that are raining from the sky.
Halloween!
Michael (Admin) | Oct 24, 2011 Games

Halloween! (Free) by Schatzisoft
Available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad
If you’re looking for an all-in-one Halloween app, this is it. Kind of. Halloween! comes equipped with a bunch of features including a countdown to October 31st, scary sounds, creepy sound loops, costume ideas, and Halloween trivia, to name a few. Halloween ringtones and wallpapers are also part of the set, but you have to fork over $.99 to get them.

Zombie Life
Michael (Admin) | Oct 24, 2011 Games

Zombie Life (Free) by The PlayForge
Available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad
Zombie Life is one of those cute, cartoony, Sims-like games where your purpose is to live vicariously through your title character which, in this case, happens to be a zombie. Keep your zombie happy, free of decay, gainfully employed, and complete the “quests” that gradually become available, and you’ll get to unlock new occupations and wardrobes and whatnot that will make your little undead pal’s life that much more exciting.
This is a really well done game that proves The PlayForge has some top-level talent on their payroll, but in all honesty games like this bore me to tears! Is it because I’m almost 40 and this genre seems mostly aimed at gum-snapping teenagers? Yeah, probably.
But I will say this for Zombie Life: it’s funny. Not in a LOL kind of way, but more in a :) kind of way. The characters, the writing, the overall design… funny! And cute.

Prize Claw Halloween
Michael (Admin) | Oct 20, 2011 Games

Prize Claw Halloween (free) by Game Circus
If your kid is into those prize claw machines that never spit out actual prizes, get this app and tell Junior to shut his hole.
Ok that’s a little mean, don’t do that! But do try to amuse him/her/it with this app because (a) this prize claw rarely drops anything, (b) it’s free, and (c) it’s very Halloween-themed which I hear children are really into this time of year.

Shoot the Birds
Michael (Admin) | Oct 20, 2011 Games

Shoot the Birds (free) by Infinite Dreams, Inc.
Don’t let the name fool you… Shoot the Birds is NOT an Angry Birds imitator! Infinite Dreams has made something original here and it’s pretty cool, plus it looks kind of Halloweeny with the bird killer being a pumpkin-headed scarecrow. Intentional or just a coincidence that it’s October? Eh, who cares.
So yeah, this game is all about shooting as many birds out of the sky as you can before the sun goes down. Some birds are worth more points than others, and you can score combos by skewering several at a time which is oddly satisfying.
IAR’s 18 Random Halloween Freebies
Michael (Admin) | Oct 30, 2009 Random Freebies
Halloween is tomorrow which means all these Halloween iPhone apps will be losing relevance really soon! Enjoy them while you can. This is my third installment of Halloween Freebies, so there are 6 new ones and I’m also tacking on the previous 12.
Movie Costume by DD Studio: Another dress-up-your-photos app, but this one comes with no less than 88 items for making your friends look stupid.
Singing Pumpkins by RAMDreams: I reviewed this app last year and it’s great! Tap the ridiculously cute pumpkins to hear them sing or make scary noises.
100+ Halloween Costumes by iPhoneCodeTutorials.com: If you’re desperate for a Halloween costume idea maybe this app can help?
Manic Pumpkin by Rich Olson: Roll your pumpkin downhill and jump it off ramps through a very Halloweeny 3D course! There’s also a non-Halloween-themed version called Manic Marble.
Ghostbuster by Geek Quarter: Capture at least 35 ghosts to advance to the next level. Sorry, this game has nothing to do with the movie!
Funhouse of Horrors 01 Digital Comic! by Carnival Comics: Like comics? Oh sorry, I mean “graphic novels”? This is an iPhone-ized version of Jazan Wild’s Funhouse of Horrors.

App Sale: Styx Halloween
Michael (Admin) | Oct 29, 2009 Games

Styx Halloween is was on sale for free – apparently the price has gone back up to $2.99

The further you go, the more different kinds of Halloween faces you have to contend with
Styx Halloween is one of those match 3 games where you run your finger across matching units that are either touching or diagonal from each other. I guess that technically makes it a “match as many as you can” game and the combination of great graphics and tons of powerups makes this a pretty fun Halloween diversion!
The game comes with three modes: Chains, Time Trial, and Puzzle. Chains and Time Trial are both very similar in that your goal is to find as many chains as possible, and Puzzle forces you to figure out how to eliminate groups of Halloween icons in the right order so that no individual pieces are leftover.
EMV Software built in a global scoreboard and made Styx Halloween iPod-friendly, so I’d advise you to go get this app while it’s still free! The App Store page says this game is on sale for 2 days only, and the price went down 2 days ago, so it may go back to its original $2.99 price any minute now.

App Sale: Day of the Flying Pumpkins
Michael (Admin) | Oct 28, 2009 App Sale Alert, Games

Those little pumpkins fly around pretty quick, and don't forget about the timer down in the corner!
Day of the Flying Pumpkins is on sale for free – normally $.99
Pop the pumpkins, but it’s Game Over if you touch a skull! That’s pretty much all there is to this game, but as Halloween-themed apps go it’s not bad for a few minutes of amusement.
Load it up, hand it to the kids, and tell them they don’t get to go trick-or-treating until they reach level 20 on Nightmare mode. That’ll shut ‘em up!
According to the App Store page, Day of the Flying Pumpkins is on sale “today only” so if you want it for free you should go get it right now.

App Sale: All Hallow’s Eve: Witch’s Ride
Michael (Admin) | Oct 28, 2009 Games

All Hallow’s Eve: Witch’s Ride is on sale for free – normally $.99
Being a witch has never been easy, what with crazy villagers wanting to burn you at the stake and all, and now it’s even harder as you try to survive in All Hallow’s Eve: Witch’s Ride. Your job is to fly as far as you can and collect candy along the way, but there are all kinds of monsters and other weirdness getting in your way!
The more candy you can collect the better; not only does it extend your life, but if you collect enough you can use it to zap all the bad guys with a lightning strike. Some of the monsters can be dealt with by spearing them with your broomstick, but generally speaking you just need to stay out of their way.
Half Fast Games threw in Open Feint for global scoring and did a nice job on the graphics and overall production values. All Hallow’s Eve: Witch’s Ride won’t keep you busy for hours, but it’s a mildly amusing Halloween diversion… and it’s free! For now, anyway.
